After tendering, evaluation and contract signature the construction site was handed over to the local contractor who is based in Oshakati.
Following the kick-off event two staff of EGLV, an engineer and a technician, stay in Outapi for six weeks. Their goal is to become acquainted with the wastewater treatment plant and to establish together with OTC the needs for personnel and trainings. In future EGLV will regularly serve OTC with representatives on-site and therefore support the sustainable operation of their plants.
The first workshop took place with members of six neighboring municipalities, serving as a basis for the wastewater treatment plant partnership in the north of Namibia. Led by ISOE, the current conditions of the existing wastewater treatment ponds were discussed and the aims and objectives of the EPoNa project presented. The primary subject of discussion was how the scientific findings in Outapi can influence the future operation of the other sites.
In the course of the kick-off event the groundbreaking took place at the EPoNa site in Outapi to start construction work. Representatives of Outapi Town Council (OTC) and the German delegation rolled up their sleeves and got to work, thus collectively marking the beginning. At the same time the local press and neighboring municipalities used the opportunity to inform themselves about the planned activities.
